Air Fryer Roast Beef Sandwiches
Air Fryer Roast Beef Sandwiches are stuffed with tender roast beef, Swiss cheese, and a special sauce that takes these over the top!
A WARM AND CHEESY BEEF SANDWICH RECIPE
I love how fast these warm Air Fryer Roast Beef Sandwiches come together. They’re great for last minute dinners. We love sandwiches like this for lunch or dinner and there is nothing better than gooey cheese on a toasted bun. right? And if the thought of stone ground mustard or horseradish throws you off, don’t worry because I have other great ideas you can use instead!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For the purposes of recipe testing, I always use a standard basket air fryer since that is the one most owned by Americans so I use that as a standard. For this one I used a Cosori 5.8qt Air Fryer (paid affiliate link – the one I have is white and I don’t think they make white anymore). I was able to fit in two sandwiches at a time.
There are SO many different types of air fryers now that it is impossible for me to test every single recipe in every type of air fryer there is out there. Basket air fryers, toaster oven style air fryers, top flow air flyers (and the list goes on) – so it is really important that you understand and are familiar with the type of air fryer that YOU own and how it cooks. Sometimes food can cook faster in certain types of air fryers so if you think that might be the case with yours, you may want to check it earlier than the times I give below.
Of course. Just reduce your cook time by about a minute.
Then don’t use it or swap it out for some garlic aioli or just swipe a little mayonnaise on there.
This is a bit more challenging to replace because it does bring a distinct flavor to the sandwich. You could use yellow mustard, but it has more of a vinegar flavor than stone ground mustard does. I would suggest trying dijon mustard, or just leaving it out altogether.
Sure. If horseradish and stone ground mustard aren’t for you, you can leave the sauce out altogether, use more mayo, or just use BBQ sauce. This would also be good with some Horsey Sauce or Arby-Q Sauce from Arby’s that you can buy in most grocery stores.
Also, for a sweeter sauce, try adding 2-3 teaspoons of your favorite sweetener, such as sugar, honey or maple syrup. Or just swipe the buns with a little butter or garlic butter.
You bet. Super simple too! Just heat up some beef consomme or prepare a packet of Au Jus gravy top dip the sandwiches in. It’s totally fine to grab the canned beef consomme for ease of use.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in for up to 2-3 days. The bread may start to get soggy over time.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
- mayonnaise – I really think it has to be mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip. Miracle Whip is actually a dressing and it is pretty tangy. However, if you love Miracle Whip then go for it!
- stone ground mustard– if you missed it, I have substitution ideas for this and the horseradish above in the FAQ section.
- prepared horseradish– you can use more or less horseradish according to your preferences. See suggestions or variations on replacing this in the Frequently Asked Questions section above.
- brioche buns– regular burger buns or pretzel buns would also work nicely.
- Swiss cheese– could be swapped out for havarti cheese, provolone or gouda cheese.
- thinly sliced deli roast beef – if you have leftover roast beef, it works great here. You can also experiment with different sliced meats as well.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER ROAST BEEF SANDWICHES
Mix together the mayo, mustard and horseradish in a small bowl. Below I am showing you how I make two sandwiches since you’ll have to work in batches (depending on the size of your air fryer). Optional: Line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil. Add two bottom buns and two top buns to the air fryer basket and spread some of the sauce on each bun.
Place a slice of cheese onto each bun. On the bottom buns, add some slices of roast beef (I used about 5 slices each).
Cook the sandwiches on the air fry setting at 370F for 4-6 minutes, until cheese and meat are warmed through and buns are slightly toasted. Note: If buns are becoming too golden you can remove the top buns for the last couple minutes of cooking. Continue with the rest of the sandwiches. Enjoy!
